George Vavatsis

Greece

George Vavatsis was born in 1974 in Thessaloniki, Greece, where he currently lives and works. He established his first ceramics studio in 2000, where he explored as many aspects of the ceramics art as possible, for more than 20 years. He has been mostly experimented on clay types, glaze formulas, natural sources and wheel throwing.

Today he is running  ‘6 exi’ contemporary ceramics gallery in Thessaloniki, ‘Hakah Ceramics Design Production’, a production unit focusing on tableware, and his personal studio where he creates his own pottery.

He is a member of the International Academy of Ceramics.

‘There are two reasons, why I became a potter and remained involved with ceramics. The wheel is the first and essential one on this experience. Inner balance, full emotion, self control and the absolute truth of technical skill, are the elements of the wheel throwing practice. The eternal state of learning, is the second one. Ceramics is a limitless art field, expanding our experiences and knowledge into enormous, unexpected depths. The creation of a bowl, do touch our senses, in the same way the creation of an art masterpiece does to us. Clay demands, an equal knowledge of handling and respect. It is an extraordinary experience, getting feelings of greatness out of such a simple actions.’
